On February 26, 2026, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the much-anticipated ₹2,100 crore East Coast Road (ECR) elevated corridor. Stretching from the ECR–Lattice Bridge (LB) Road junction in Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi, this project is set to become Tamil Nadu’s longest elevated road.
The project is being executed by the Tamil Nadu State Highways Authority (TANSHA). It features a modern four-lane design, 17.25 meters wide, with a vertical clearance of 5.5 meters to ensure smooth movement for heavy vehicles below.
The corridor is a game-changer for South Chennai, designed to bypass 13 major congested junctions including Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Neelankarai, and Akkarai. While this stretch currently takes up to 60 minutes during peak hours, the new expressway will slash travel time to just 15–20 minutes.
Strategic entry and exit ramps are planned to ensure local residents maintain easy access:
Beyond speed, the project incorporates advanced safety and environmental features:
Infrastructure of this scale is a proven driver for property appreciation. By transforming the ECR into a high-speed artery, the project increases the living radius of the city. Areas once considered too far for a daily commute are now prime residential hubs.
While the coastal stretch sees immediate benefits, the overall decongestion of South Chennai makes balanced neighborhoods like Porur even more attractive for professionals working in the city's IT corridors. If you are exploring urban living with excellent connectivity, you might find our flats in Porur for sale to be the perfect investment as the city's infrastructure expands.
This corridor is more than just a road; it is a gateway to the future growth of the ECR towards Mamallapuram and Pondicherry. At NuTech, we believe these developments reflect Chennai’s evolution into a world-class destination.
